Book Club - July

July 3, 2017

I've been reading and mentioning on the blog several amazing books over the past few weeks, and I decided that it would be nice to have a post that features the best of them! Hopefully, I'll remember to make this a somewhat regular monthly series on the blog!

For the Person Who Loves Nutrition: Wired to Eat by Robb Wolf

Robb's latest book combines science with real life applications, allowing you to figure out exactly what does and doesn't work well for you body when it comes to food with his 30 day reset and 7 day carb test. However, the book is about more than just food - he also delves into the importance of sleep, exercise, and human connections, pieces of our health that we often miss. Robb is one of the head thought leaders in the Paleo/real food movement. I highly recommend this book, and his first book The Paleo Solution, to anyone looking to learn more about their health and how to get started with a real food lifestyle.

For the Person Ready to Change: The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*** by Sarah Knight

We are all running around giving to many f***s, according to Sarah. We pretend to care about way too much, and in the end, all we end up with is feeling exhausted, worn down, and depleted. This book walks you through the process of learning what you truly care about and what brings you joy in life, as well as what drains you and drags you down. Then, she helps you put this "life changing magic" into action to clean up your life and start living the life you want. It's a quick read that is funny and insightful at the same time!

For the Person Wanting More Insight into Life: The Rhythm of Life by Matthew Kelly

Primarily a Catholic author, this older book (originally published in 1999) by Matthew Kelly is a wonderful read for anyone at almost any stage in their adult life. Kelly shares simple insights into becoming the best-version-of-yourself, a phrase that is mentioned often in most of his books. Becoming the best-version-of-yourself means that you have learned to live a life that is healthier, more effective, and more fulfilled. This book is perfect for anyone looking to gain more insight into this mysterious journey we call life.

For the Person Just Wanting a Good Fiction Read: Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

I read this book several years ago, closer to the time it first came out (2008), but recently, I decided to revisit it. Picoult has a way with writing and telling a story that keeps you wrapped up until the very last page. Most of the time, you never see her plot twists coming! Nineteen Minutes is about a horrific school shooting that leaves too many dead and injured, and too many hearts broken. However, it is still worth the read as Picoult takes you through the journey of the shooting, using specific flashbacks throughout the different chapters. If this subject matter is too much for you to handle at this time, I highly recommend any of her other books. They are amazingly written!

I hope you enjoyed this first installment of the Nourish & Thrive book club! Stay tuned for future months as I continue to share my favorite books to all of you! If you have any to share, please feel free to comment or share!
