I've talked about this on the blog before, but it bears repeating.

Food companies are not on your side. They are in the business of creating food products for the money.

Now, inherently, there is nothing wrong with that. We all need to make a living; we need money to survive in society.

However, this money is coming at the expense of our health.

Just think about this: how many times have you been persuaded to buy a particular product because of the fancy labels or "healthy-sounding" wording?

How many times have you been swayed by the words low-fat, sugar-free, or low in sodium

Or, maybe the label said something along the lines of heart-healthy, low-calorie, or natural?

Sometimes, yes, these labels are helpful and actually are a good thing. But, more often than not, these labels are simply buzz words to get you to buy the product.

Take for instance the new Special K Nourish cereal. Look at the pretty box and all the fun buzz words:

Bright colors and the words "balanced carbs" and "multi-grain flakes" seem to draw you in. I'm sure its low fat too! Even better right?!

Don't be fooled by that garbage.

Flip over the box and investigate for yourself. Here's a peek at the ingredient list, which, by the way, contains over 7 forms of sugar:

This is where we run into trouble. Chemicals we can't pronounce, artificial vitamins, and an endless lis of ingredients.

Processed food made by big name manufacturing companies nowadays cannot be trusted. They are not in it to help you get healthier. They are in it for the money and for the addiction to sugar, refined carbs, and salt that may occur as a result of you eating there product.

You are better and so much smarter than that! Your body deserves real, whole, nourishing food, food that DOESN'T need a label!

Now is the time to go out and support your local farmer with farmers markets and summer produce stands. While we have the freshest produce available, let's make the best of it.

Throw away your fat-free chips, cookies, cheese, milk, and other processed food. Toss the 100-calorie packs of Oreos. Let's eat and enjoy real food, free from deceiving labels and words.
