Since Monday’s post was a long winded rant, I’ll keep today’s post simple and short.
Too often we spend half of our time and energy overthinking things: upcoming events, our jobs, our future. We think about our goals and what we would like to accomplish. We ponder our future; we ponder what we’ll be doing in a year, five years, twenty years. We think about those around us and compare ourselves to them. We spend so much time thinking and so little time acting.
Let’s resolve to change that mentality together. Instead of overthinking everything, let’s start taking actionable steps every single day. Let’s start doing!
For example, have you always wanted to lose weight and get healthy? Have you reached that goal? Or, do you find yourself worrying about which steps to take, or comparing yourself to others in your life that may or may not be healthier than you? Maybe it’s time to stop this train of thinking and wishing and start doing something to make yourself healthier every single day!
No, it’s not going to be easy. Change is hard, and it will take calculated effort on your part every single day, but in the end, isn’t it worth it? If you truly want to make a change or get something done in your life, you have to work at it every single day. Every morning, you must wake up and ask yourself, what can I do today that will get me closer to my goal or will make me better for tomorrow?
Here’s an example from my own life: one of my goals for the year is to be able to squat and deadlift 1.5 times my body weight, which I’m estimating to be 180 pounds (not an easy feat!). I can’t just expect to wake up one morning and go and lift this amount of weight. I’d hurt myself! I also can’t spend my days wishing and hoping that someday I’ll be able to lift that amount of weight, without ever putting some time and action into reaching my goal.
Instead, I need to take the opportunity every single day to make myself stronger and get myself closer to my goal. Now, this doesn’t mean I’m going to squat and deadlift every day and wear myself out. On the contrary, this means that I’ll be taking smaller steps every day, like eating more protein (especially on days which I lift legs), giving myself at least 2 days rest between lifting legs, and making sure to get enough sleep so that my muscles have time to recover. Every day I’ll wake up and ask myself, is what I’m doing today getting me closer to my goal?
Now it’s your turn. What goal have you've been chasing in your life for so long, yet you never can seem to reach it? It’s time to take action and start doing. I promise you, all of those small steps that you take every single day will get you to that goal.
