My Favorite Things: January

The first month of the new year is almost over - can you believe it?! Although it was hard for me to say goodbye to Christmas, I'm grateful for another year full of opportunities and experiences! As we wrap up this first month, I'm currently loving:

1. The Cold

Yep. I'm that person. After being cold for so many years, now I find myself not so sensitive to the cold weather anymore. During the winter, my bedroom is extra cold, making my sleep that much deeper and better! Plus, there's something about the bite in the air that makes me smile, given that I don't have to stay out in it too long!

2. Downton Abbey

Since football is nearing its end, I started rewatching Downton Abbey a few weeks ago. It's been about a year since I finished it after watching it for the first time, so now it's fun to go back, rewatch it, and catch all of the hidden messages and foreshadowing. If there ever was a show or movie with foreshadowing, it's Downton Abbey for sure.

3. Decline Push-Ups

One of my goals in 2018 is to focus on push-ups. Decline push-ups are one of the variations that I've been adding to my regular routine. Decline push-ups are performed with your hands on the ground and your feet elevated. I'm definitely forced to engage my core that much more with decline push-ups compared to regular push-ups!

4. Coconut Banana Bake with Almond Butter

Recently, I've been trying to be a little more flexible with the foods I'm eating. Yes, I'm still grain, dairy, soy, and sugar free, but I've been experimenting with some not-so-sweet treats that use fruit (usually bananas) as the sweetener. I found a recipe that uses coconut flour, coconut oil, banana, and an egg (among other ingredients) that I bake in a single serve ramekin (because if I don't I'll eat the whole thing!). Once it's out of the oven, I top it with almond butter and die a little inside of happiness (not really, but when you can't eat chocolate because it kills your digestion, this is the next best thing!).

5. Tea

I started drinking more tea about a month or so ago, and I've found that I actually do like it more than I realized. To help wake up my digestive system in the morning, I start with a ginger green tea. If I want something during the day, I have a mango ginger tea that I'll sip. It is naturally sweet-ish from the mango, but not too sweet. At night, I've been having chamomile tea. I always thought that would taste like dirt, but it's actually really good and super relaxing! I made the mistake of drinking it in the morning once - that made for one long and tired day!

What are you loving so far in 2018?

xoxo Olivia
