The holiday season is upon us, and most of us will be traveling here or there for various holiday events. How do you ensure that you're prepared for the traveling in a healthy way? Start by packing your bag and cooler with healthy travel-friendly snacks!

Today, I'm sharing my top 10 favorite travel-friendly snacks that are always in my bag when I'm out and about!

1. Baby Carrots and Almonds/Almond Butter

There's nothing easier than grabbing a snack size bag of baby carrots along with a handful of raw almonds for a quick snack that has a great dose of healthy fat and carbs. You can also grab a Justin's Almond Butter pack from Target, HyVee, or Whole Foods for even more convenience!

2. Hard-Boiled Eggs

Cook them a dozen at a time, peel them all at once, and pack them in a small cooler for any trip!

3. Apple and Pistachios

Pack any apple with a handful of dry roasted pistachios for a delicious and easy snack on the road. My favorite pistachios are those in the shell, so that I have to "work" to get them!

4. Epic Jerky Bars

These jerky bars are made with high-quality meats (chicken, turkey, buffalo, beef, and more!), and contain little to no sweeteners, besides maybe some fruit. They are available online or in stores at HyVee, Fresh Thyme, Natural Grocers, and Whole Foods. The brand also has trail mixes, jerky bites, and more to choose from. My favorite flavor of the bars is the turkey - I always have one in my purse for emergencies.

5. Larabars

Made with only a few ingredients (like nuts and dates), Larabars are sweet and delicious! They never contain any artificial ingredients, and are wonderful real-food based bar that isn't loaded with fake ingredients. They are available at most grocery stores. My favorite flavor is the Cashew Cookie, made with only cashews and dates. That's it!

6. Canned Tuna and Avocado

Look for a can of tuna that is wild-caught and contains no other ingredients but salt, tuna, and water. If you pre-cut your avocado in half at home and wrap it back up, halves together, in cling wrap, the avocado will be already cut and ready to go!

7. Raw Vegetables and Guacamole

Make your own guac or buy a clean store brand and throw in your favorite raw veggies alongside, like broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, or carrots!

8. Olives, Carrots, and Celery

You can take a can of olives anywhere or pre-portion them into snack bags. Toss in some carrots and celery (or whatever you like!) and your snack is done.

9. Banana and Brazil Nuts

Grab a banana and some raw Brazil nuts (3-4 should be plenty), and you have a great snack on the run.

10. Goat Cheese and a Pear

I don't eat much dairy, but lately I've been experimenting with goat cheese. I found goat cheese medallions at Trader Joe's and paired them with a pear for a delicious snack that is quick and simple!

No matter where you are going or how long you are traveling, it's always wise to have a few healthy snacks along for the ride - you never know what could happen!

What is your favorite healthy snack on the road?

xoxo Oivia
